Empties Part 1

I have been blogging (on and off) for years, and I was a little surprised to see that I have done an empties post! If you are unfamiliar with 'empties' post, it's where people share the recently empty containers of products they have used.

Here we are, my first empties post!
  • Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water- In my opinion Micellar Water is Micellar Water, they are all basically the same. I tend to buy whichever Micellar Water is on sale/has a lower price point. I will say that I do really like this product and find it to be slightly less drying than other Micellar Waters.
  • eSalon Every Rich Way Moisturizing Conditioner and eSalon Getting Rich Moisturizing Shampoo- I bought both of these products during a FabFitFun add ons sale, and I wasn't able to find the conditioner online, which is why it's not linked. Both products added moisture to my dry hair, making it look and feel healthier. I found it to be equal to either shampoo/conditioners, so I likely won't repurchase, unless it's part of a sale again.
  • Garnier All-In-1 Cleansing Micellar Water- Again, I think Micellar Water is Micellar Water. I do like this product (and am currently using it), but it is a bit drying to my overly dry skin. Nothing that a little moisturizer afterwards can't fix.
  • Got 2b Beach Trippin Salt-Infusion Waving Spray- This product has been discontinued and this was the last bottle that I had. This was my holy grail of hair products. It provided beautiful, beachy waves without the crunchy, sticky residue that other salt sprays have.
  • Marrakesh Argan and Hemp Oil- My new hair holy grail product. I use this oil every time I wash my hair. It leaves my hair hydrated, shiny, smooth, and healthy. I love this product and highly recommend it.
  • Skin Laundry Restoring Night Serum- This product always seems to be sold out everywhere, so I haven't been able to repurchase. This serum left my skin looking smoother, and with an even tone.
  • Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb- I a, convinced that I have the driest skin in the world...I am constantly on the search for products that can hydrate my skin, and hydrate for longer than a couple of hours. This product is it! You can use it both in the morning and at night, it leaves my skin feel comfortable and hydrated for hours. This has been repurchased a number of times and is my current moisturizer.
  • Osea Atmosphere Protection Cream- This is technically not an 'empty' but I've included it because I can't use it any more and threw it out. I really liked this product and used it daily. However, it reached a point where the product stopped coming out of the pump. If I shook the bottle, it would work, but then that stopped working. The pump wasn't clogged or anything...it just stopped working. It was too much of a hassle to the get the remaining product out, so I moved on.

There we have it...my first empties! There were a lot of great products. The Osea Cream is the only one I wouldn't repurchase- great product, but a lot of money to spend on something where I can only use 2/3 of the product. The shampoo and conditioner is not necessarily something I wouldn't buy again, but it's not worth it to order online and have it shipped. I can, and have found, similar products that work just as well that I can pick up at Shoppers Drug Mart. All other products I have and will continue to repurchase.

What's Your Face Worth?

I will be the first to admit, I am not a makeup guru- I don't even pretend to be. My makeup routine, when I do decide to wear makeup, is very basic. But, I thought it would still be fun to see 'how much my face is worth'. Or, it might be horrifying.

If you don't know 'What's Your Face Worth' is where you take your daily makeup routine and figure out the prices of all the makeup products you use. So, let's get into it!

Well...almost $200! I feel that's a little crazy! I don't want to think about how much it would cost for a 'full face' of make up with contour, concealer, eyeliner, etc. I take comfort in know that some products came in subscription boxes, so I didn't pay full price. Other products were sent to me complimentary for review. I thought because my makeup routine is so minimal that the 'value' would be a bit lower...

A couple of notes:
  • Prices are CAD
  • Prices, in general, tend to be higher in Canada
  • Some products were listed in USD and I used the current exchange to convert to CAD
  • I also used current list prices- if a product was on sale, that is the price I used

Revlon Volumazing Mascara Review

Many moons ago, I had a make up artist tell me that I should wear mascara every day because I have such nice lashes. Despite this nice compliment and great advice, I don't wear mascara- or any makeup besides a lip product- on a daily basis. BUT I have added mascara to my beauty routine on the days that I do wear make up.

I do have a Revlon mascara in my rotation of mascara's, and I think that Revlon is a great brand with great products. When I was given the opportunity to test Revlon's Volumazing Mascara I was excited to try the product out!

Something that really intrigued me about this product, is that the formula is infused with olive oil, which is supposed to be super nourishing for your lashes! I will admit that I found the formula to be a lot 'softer' that other formulas. My lashes didn't feel or look stiff, but instead looked natural and soft. I was super impressed with the fact that there was no clumping or flaking.

Mascara on my left eye, right eye is natural.
There was a noticeable difference to my lashes with just one coat. There was a transfer of product from my lashes to my upper eyelid, but this might just be me- I naturally have super long lashes and frequently have this issue with mascara.

I was concerned that the brush seemed 'bulky' and that there was A LOT of mascara on the brush...it made me think that I was going to end up with 'spider eyes', but that wasn't the case at all!! The brush does have a lot of bristles, but it's designed to coat all of your lashes evenly- which it does.

Final Verdict: I really liked using Revlon's Volumazing Mascara and highly recommend it. This product might just become my new 'go to' mascara!

February Favourites

February flew by- which means we are closer to Summer (my favourite), but it also means my birthday month is over. I had a great month, and got to do some really fun things- including attending a live recording of the podcast Grown Ups Read Things They Wrote As Kids! I also had a great time celebrating my birthday with family, friends, a relaxing day off, a fun night out, and a birthday donut!

But here we are in a new month, which means a new round of favourite things from the past month! Here are my favourite things from February:

Image Via
Baths are just so cozy, warm, and a great way to spend a snowy Sunday afternoon. What's not so great is the unpleasant sound of water draining from your tub, or all of the warm water draining away from your body. Luckily I discover SlipX Solutions Bottomless Bath Overflow Drain Cover. Place it over your overflow drain, and enjoy a relaxing bath which now has a few extra inches of water, This has changed my bath game.

Image Via
I have mentioned a billion times how dry my skin is and how I am always on the search of the magic moisturizing product that will keep my skin hydrated. Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb has become my lifesaving skin product. The gel like, water based product feel so amazing and hydrating on my skin, and it keeps my skin feeling super hydrated through out the day. This just might be that magic product I have been searching for!!

Image Via
I received this Homemade by Ayesah Curry mug in a subscription box a few months ago. Not only is super cute, but it's such a nice size! I can fit a lot of hot chocolate/coffee/tea in the mug, and I can easily wrap both hands around the mug for some added warmth.

Image Via
Like everyone else, I am obsessed with Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. I want to be friends with them. And, like everyone else, am convinced they are the world's greatest love story.

I'm just going to leave this here for you to watch and fall even more in love with them...

January Favourites

Happy Wednesday and happy last day of January!! This past month- with the exception of the cold I have been battling for two weeks- has been a great month. I could have done without the ice and snow, but I love all the time I spent with family and friends. Girls Night- dinner and Pitch Perfect 3 during a snow storm- was the highlight of January.

I thought it would be fun to share some of my favourite things from January!

Image Via
I am a hot chocolate fan, and I am a Coffee Crisp fan. I tend not to like flavoured hot chocolates because it just doesn't taste like the intended flavour or the flavour is too powerful. But this is the perfect combination! It tastes just like a Coffee Crisp!

Image Via
I have purchased jeans from Old Navy before, and I'm not sure what prompted me to buy them. I wish I had discovered these jeans before!! I bought a pair of Boyfriend style jeans and they are so incredibly comfortable! What I really LOVE about these jeans is that while they are cropped, they are actually the perfect length for me and my 5'2"...no hemming necessary.
Image Via
I received the Caramel Cream lip conditioner by Scentuals in a subscription box months ago and I am addicted to this product! All natural, no real scent or taste to it, applies nicely, isn't sticky...so many things to love about this product! What makes it a favourite for me is that it actually smooths and hydrates my lips- which get super chapped in our cold, dry, Canadian winter. I usually apply when I get up in the morning, when I come home from work, and before bed- no need to constantly reapply for it to work.

Image Via
During the Boxing Week sales, I bought a pair of these PJ's from LaSenza. These are so comfortable! The pants are lightweight and the top is a great material- I basically want to live in these! I'm tempted to buy a pair in every colour!
Image Via
I had been meaning to buy a 4-port USB charger forever and finally got one. It has been life-changing. The model I have (pictured) has a USB that can plug into your computer or into a wall-adapter (which is what I do), and then there are four ports to plug your electronics in so they can charge. I went from having cables, plugs, and adapters everywhere- and not having enough plugs to plug everything into- to a streamlined, one outlet, charging station. My electronics now have a designated spot in my home and are always charged when I need them.

Spring Vibes: New Discoveries & An Old Favourite

I love being introduced to new products and new brands. Thanks to Influenster, I have spent the past several weeks testing out a number of products from their Spring Vibes Vox Box. Some brands were new to me, some brands I had heard of but the product was new to me, and one product/brand I have been a fan of for a while. There was variety, which I loved!
Curious to know what was in the box?

NesCafe Sweet & Creamy- I loved the individual coffee sachets, which are perfect for home, work, or on the go. Super easy to use, makes a nice cup of coffee, and can be used hot or iced. I am keeping a couple of these in my desk, in case I need an 'emergency' mid-afternoon coffee.

Nivea Q10 Firming Body Oil- I didn't really notice a difference in the firmness of my skin, but I have only been using it for a couple of weeks. I'm hoping the more I use it, the more of a difference I will notice. I do want to mention that this oil was great for my overly dry skin, which I really appreciate!!
imPRESS Press On Manicure- This is actually a product that I have been using for a couple of years- I am such a huge fan!! There were enough nails for both me and my sister, plus extras. These are so easy to apply- peel and stick- and they stay on for a few days. I love how natural they look, and my sister and I both got TONS of compliments!
Ebates Popsocket- The popsocket helps you get a better grip on your phone, or acts as a stand for watching videos on your phone. I'm so surprised that more people don't know about Ebates! YOU GET PAID TO SHOP!!! Ebates has partnered with a number of retailers- including Hudson's Bay and Sephora. You can access the online stores of partner retailers from Ebates and they will give you cash back for shopping.

Annie's Shells & White Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese- To say this was delicious is an understatement! Made with real white cheddar- none of that fake powder stuff- and organic shells, this is a health take on traditional comfort food.

Arm & Hammer Plus OxiClean 3-in-1 Power Paks- First of all, I am fan of 'power pak' type products, as they do the pre-measuring for you. Arm & Hammer not only gets out stains, but smells great too.

Quaker Harvest Fruit & Nut Granola Bar- About a month ago, a friend and I decided to use our Parks Canada Pass to spend the afternoon at Point Pelee- the Southern most part of mainland Canada- and packed these granola bars for a snack. Another delicious product! They were the perfect in between meals item...just enough to tied you over and feel satisfied without making you feel full and sluggish. I love that these are a health alternative to other granola bars, but still taste delicious!

Review: Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment

A number of months ago, I was introduced to Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment. I was given the product in the shade of "Sugar Fig". I must admit, at first look, I was not a fan of the colour- I thought it was too dark, too shimmery, and too 'purple' for me. The product sat in my make up draw for a few months before I even gave it try.
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Sugar FigImage via Sephora

I. Love. This. Product!
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment has become my 'go to' lip product. The colour is really sheer, so "Sugar Fig" did end up being a good colour for me, but it's also a buildable product- you just keep layering until you get the shade you want. In the tube, the product looked really shimmery, but was perfect on my lips. I have since tried this product in "Tulip" which is a pretty, pink colour.

What I love about Fresh, besides it being a sheer and a buildable product, is how soft, smooth, and hydrated it leaves my lips! While it isn't a 'long lasting' colour (and it doesn't claim to be), the colour does last a decent amount. The price point is a little high ($30), but well worth it!

Lush Hull

A couple of weeks ago, I was on Lush's website looking at the new products they had available for Valentine's Day. I am a Lush fan and prefer to shop in store. It smells amazing and the sales associates always tip me off to new products and products they love.

I wasn't sure when I would have the chance to make it over to a Lush store (I live half an hour from two stores, so not far), which is why I was on their website. The next thing I knew, I had placed an order for a number of their products.
So, what did I end up buying?
My condo smelled amazing for the first few days that I had all the bath bombs out.As you can see, I got a ton of great stuff and I'm excited to using everything, especially the foot products- I've never tried these from Lush before!

Maple Holistics Shampoo & Conditioner- Review

A couple of months ago, I was contacted by Maple Holistics and asked if I would review one of their products. I had the option of selecting what product I wanted to try- there were so many great options!! I mentioned to them what some of my hair concerns to them and asked them to pick a product that would benefit me.

Maple Holistics ended up sending me two great products: Hydrate (shampoo) and Silk 18 (conditioner).

After using both products for a month...well, my hair has never been more grateful!!

Let's start with the shampoo. Hydrate is a moisture shampoo for dry hair and flaky scalp. How many times have I said that my skin is incredible dry and always in need of more moisture? This shampoo actually provided some relief to my dry scalp. Although it didn't totally solve my dry skin/scalp issue, it definitely made a difference.

Something also to note; this product claims to be 100% safe for coloured hair. I started using this shampoo around the time I had my hair coloured. I'm happy to report that the shampoo didn't fade the colour...yay for that!!

The conditioner, Silk 18, was another moisturizing product. I generally don't use conditioner in my hair, for the simple fact that I haven't found one that makes a difference and/or doesn't leave my hair feeling weighed down and/or causes more problems than help.

This product did leave my hair looking healthy, decreased the frizz (that whole need of hydration thing), and left my hair feeling soft and silky. I am so happy to have found a conditioner that actually does something positive for my hair!!

As a bonus, both products smelling amazing!! People even commented on how nice my hair smelled. They have products for both men and women, and carry a variety of products to address hair, skin, and bath and body needs. Lots of options!!

So many people are turning to natural or holistic products. Some of them work great, some work ok, and some don't work. Maple Holistics is that natural company that does work- or at least the two products I tried worked.

***DISCLAIMER: I received these products complimentary from Maple Holistics for review purposes. All content and opinion are my own. For my full Disclaimer Policy, please see my About page.***

Beauty Review: Love Laneige

I feel like a broken record when it comes to my skin, which is SUPER dry. I have been so incredibly lucky with my skin...no major issues, even when I was a teenager. Just dry, thirsty skin. I am always on the hunt for products that leave my skin hydrated.
Recently Influesnter sent me a product to test- Laneige Water Sleeping Mask.
Laneige Water Sleeping Mack
You are supposed to use this mask 1-2 a week. Since my skin is in desperate need of hydration, I have been using it twice a week. My skin felt instantly hydrated after applying the lightweight gel. The gel is a bit cool, which feels so refreshing on my parched skin.

This product is so easy to use: after applying the mask, I go to sleep and let it work it's magic. In the morning, I wash the mask off...and I am good to go.

The best part about this product? It actually works!! My skin feels and looks hydrated. After using this product, my skin looks clearer and brighter as well. Around day 3 (note: I did not use any other product, including moisturizer, while testing this product) my skin starts to feel dry again, which is why I use the product twice a week.

Final verdict? I love Laneige Water Sleeping Mask!! This is the first product that has left my skin feeling hydrated for more than 24 hours, and without aide from another product. This product is now a "must" for me and is highly recommended, especially if you have dry skin.

***I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes***

Topbox Limited Edition: The Kit's Summer Survival

Topbox is a Canadian company which does monthly subscription boxes, as well as a number of limited edition boxes throughout the year. I used to be a monthly subscriber; even though I have cancelled my subscription, I do buy their limited edition boxes, if the content appeals to me.

The content of the Kit's Limited Edition Summer Survival Guide Box did appeal to me, so I bought one. The box shipped mid-August. Honestly, I wish it has shipped earlier so that I could enjoy these products during the summer. By the time I got my box there were only 2 weeks left.

  • Redken Frizz Dismiss FPF Fly-Away Fix Sheets- Described as "dry like sheets", you smooth one over dry hair to combat fly-aways and frizz. The sheets are in the box and not pre-packaged/individually packaged, which makes me wonder how long it will be before they dry out. Also, the box I have is for fine hair, which my hair is not...so I'm serious to see how well they will work.
    Retail Value: $25
    Topbox Value: $25
  • Marc Anthony Hydrating Coconut Oil & Shea Butter Moisture Rich Body Butter Dual Packs- I love the smell of coconut and I hope this smells good- since it's in a foil package, I don't want to open it until I'm ready to use it. We'll see what this product can do for my extra dry skin.
    Retail Value: $8.96
    Topbox Value: $1.34
  • Avon MagIX Face Perfecter SPF 20- This primer claims to smooth fine lines. I love that it has SPF 20! That alone will make me use this product. It's thicker than any primer I have ever used, but it did make my skin feel smoother.
    Retail Value: $9.99
    Topbox Value: $9.99
  • Evian Brumisateur Facial Spray- I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!! I have been a fan of Evian Facial Spray for years! This product can be used to set your make-up or to keep you skin hydrated- which is what I use it for. This is by far my favourite product, and the one I am most excited about, in this box.
    Retail Value: $15 for two
    Topbox Value: $7.50
  • Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Face Lotion SPF 30- This product claims to provide 12 hours of hydration- which I can't wait to test out- and protection from UVA and UVB. It smells like sunscreen, but wasn't nearly as greasy. It did make my skin feel hydrated as soon as it was applied.
    Retail Value: $9.99
    Topbox Value: $9.99
  • Illumalift Brightening Cream- This is a Canadian brand, which makes me extra excited to try it. This is supposed to be a primer, that minimizes the signs of aging by enhancing collagen production, while brightening your skin. I'm not sure how I feel about this product...it's kind of like a cream blush and you have to really blend it in, or else you have yellow streaks. It does feel light, which I like.
    Retail Value: $33
Topbox Value: Unknown...it's a sample size and doesn't say how much is in the sample
  • OGX Nourishing Coconut Milk Shampoo- My sister actually uses this shampoo, so I'm looking forward to trying it. It claims to make your hair shine, as well as strengthen it.
    Retail Value: $7.99
    Topbox Value: $1.23
  • Saint Cosmetics Eyeshawdow in Lay It Out In Lavender- The packaging is cute, but the colour isn't for me. I would have loved to try one of the other colours they had...basically, any of the other colours would have been more "me" than lavender.
    Retail Value: $24
    Topbos Value: $24
  • Barefoot Venus All Cracked Up Repairing Cocoa Butter Foot Balm- Like the rest of my body, the skin on my feet is super dry and I'm always looking for a product to use on them. I was introduced to this brand by Topbox in another box I got, and feel in love with the brand. Besides the Evian Spray, I am most excited about this product! It smells amazing!! It feels thick to the touch, but it goes on super light.
    Retail Value:$17.99
    Topbox Value:$2.77
  • Rene Furterer Okara Active Light Shampoo- Not only does this product repair damaged hair, but it's especially for highlighted and bleached hair. I don't do either to my hair, so I'm not sure if this product will do anything for me,
    Retail Value: $29.00
    Topbox Value: $2.18
  • Purology Colour Fanatic Multi-Tasking Hair Beautifier for Colour Treated Hair- I am confused by this product...it's a spray that was 21 functions? I did a little googling to try and figure more out; it "primes, protects and perfects colour-treated hair". Uses include leave in conditioner, hair cutting lotion, detanlger spray, hair cuticle sealer, anti-frizz spray, hair shine treatment... I'm still confused. I guess I'll give this a try and see what happens.
    Retail Value: $25
    Topbox Value: $3.73

Total Retail Value: $172.92 (does not include Illumalift Brightening Cream)
Total Topbox Value: $87.73 (does not include Illumalist Brightening Cream)

Don't remember how much I paid for this box, but it was between $30 and $40. Regardless, this box has a great value, almost $90 worth of products. There are a couple of products I won't use, and a bunch I am excited to try. Overall, pretty happy with this box!!

Pretty Little Beauty Swap-Reveal

My dear, sweet friend Justine hosts a fantastic swap; Pretty Little Beauty Swap. There are so many bloggers that love subscriptions boxes (me being one of them) and we've all received items in the subscriptions boxes that are great, but not great for you. This swap allows you to pass on items that just weren't for you- either a product you don't use or a colour that's not right for your complexion or a product that you have a million of and just won't end up using. It's a great way to pass on products and share favourite products with another beauty-loving blogger!!
http://sleepysinglegirl.blogspot.ca/2015/08/pretty-little-beauty-swap-link-up.html

One of me favourite part of this swap, is that I am always paired with another Canadian!! I love meeting new bloggers, especially Canadian bloggers. For this swap, I was paired with Lindsay from The Flynnigans and she has quickly become a new friend! We would would have loved to meet up in person to exchange our packages, but summer activities kept that from happening.

Lindsay absolutely spoiled me!!
Balea 3-1 Cleansing Cloths- I LOVE Balea face and hair masks (which I sent Lindsay!!), as well as foot scrubs. I have never tried their cleansing cloths, so I'm excited that Lindsay sent them to me! I use cleansing cloths all. the. time. One of my 'must have' beauty products for sure.

e.o.s. Lip Balms in Summer Fruit, Blueberry Acai and Sweet Mint- I also sent an e.o.s. lip balm to Lindsay...and these are another one of my beauty 'must have'. I was actually introduced to these by another Pretty Little Beauty swap partner and have used them ever since! I'll be keeping one at my desk, one at home and one in my purse, and these are three I haven't tried yet!

Rimmel London Volume Flash Scandal Eyes Mascara- I have known about this brand for years and years, but have never tried any of their products! I am always on the hunt for a great mascara, so I'm excited to try this!!

Anna Sui Lip Balm- First of all, super cute packaging! Another product I haven't tried...but I'm excited that Lindsay sent it! I'm basically addicted to lip balm.

Coach Purfume- This smells amazing!!! Plus this is the perfect size to keep in my bag.

Maybelline Eyeshadow in Sunlit Bronze- I love this palette!! This is perfect for me and something I will definitely wear! I'm not one to wear a lot of colour when it comes to eyeshadow and tend to stick to neutrals and bronzes.

Vaseline Intensive Care Dry Skin Repair- Thanks in part to Ontario weather, I have the driest skin ever. I'm constantly applying moisturizer and on the hunt for moisturizer that will work. I just put some on, and my skin is feeling some relief.

Lindsay also sent the cutest card with the sweetest message! Seriously, I love this girl!!!
To see what I sent Lindsay, check out her reveal post.

Huge thanks to Justine and Chelsea for hosting! Click here to see the rest of the link up.

BB Seaweed- Lush Face Mask

I love Lush products for a ton of reasons; environmentally friendly, natural ingredients, hand made products, ethical company (no animal testing, ethical sourced ingredients)... there are so many reasons to love this company! Plus, their products are amazing!  The products actually work and they smell good.

Last month, I discovered that I live about half an away from a Lush store. Up until this point, I had only been to stores a handful of times and did most of my Lush buying online. But I decided to venture to the store, with it being so close and all because:
  1. The stores are little slices of heaven.
  2. The stores smell devine.
  3. The staff is super knowledgeable and friendly.
  4. I've been dying to try their face masks, which are only available in stores.
BB Seaweed
Image Via
One of their staff lead me to the face mask section. She explained to me that the masks usually arrive on Thursday and are gone by Sunday. She suggested that I try the BB Seaweed mask (pictured above), because it's good for all skin types and would help my dry skin.
She also told me that the masks are good for three weeks and because the ingredients are all natural, you can use the mask everyday without it doing any harm to your skin.

After the first time I used this product, I understand the hype!! It was a bit awkward to apply when there was a huge piece of seaweed, but that's such a small issue. After the first time I used this mask, my skin looked brighter, smoother and overall healthier. It did leave my skin feeling hydrated, but that didn't last as long as I would like...but again, I have SUPER dry skin!

I did use this product a few days in a row, and it did not cause any irritation to my skin. Like most Lush products, it smelled pretty good (and let's be honest, not all face masks do) and I like that it wasn't greasy. Not only is this a mask, but it also exfoliates.

Future plans include another trip to the Lush store to pick up more of their masks to try.

Love, love, love this product and I highly recommend it!! Like I said, after trying this product, I understand the hype around Lush masks.
