Book Club: Where'd You Go, Bernadette

Book: Where's You Go, Bernadette
Author: Maria Semple
Amazon Summary:
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.

Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle--and people in general--has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands. A trip to the end of the earth is problematic.

To find her mother, Bee compiles email messages, official documents, secret correspondence--creating a compulsively readable and touching novel about misplaced genius and a mother and daughter's role in an absurd world.

What I have to say:
I had heard so much about this book and it's been on my reading list for years. I finally got around to reading it last weekend, and I read it in two days. This was such a fun and funny read! Not only that, the storyline was so unique and original. There are also a lot of great and interesting characters, which only add to the enjoyment of this book. I have read a number of books that use the same format- story told through letters, emails, documents, etc...I really enjoy this format, but it's not for everyone.

Final verdict: A fantastic read that should be on everyone's reading list.

Fashion Friday: Pan-Am Opening Ceremonies

Not only is today Friday (yea!) today is also the Opening Ceremonies for the Pan-Am Games. The Games are being held in Toronto this year- and in various cities near Toronto. I will be attending some of the games this weekend and early next week, which should be pretty fun. Do you know what else should be fun? The Opening Ceremonies!!

I am very, very, very lucky to have been invited as a guest to the Opening Ceremonies tonight in Toronto. I will have a recap of the Opening Ceremonies (and the Chairman's Reception, which I will also be a guest at) later in the week.

It has been ages since I have done a fashion post, I thought I would do one today and share with you what I'll be wearing to the Chairman's Reception and Opening Ceremonies.

Dress (similar) // Shoes // Earrings // Necklace // Purse
First of all, how adorable is this dress?!?! I also have the dress is red (with white polka dots). I feel in love with it the minute I saw it. I got this dress from my favourite boutique, Hive, which is located in Bayfield, Ontario.
The shoes...I actually got them from Payless!! They are pretty comfortable too and go perfectly with this outfit.

Red stud earrings keep the outfit classy and timeless. I'll be wearing ruby earrings, but any red gemstone would work.

I don't own the necklace pictured, so I obviously won't be wearing it. If I did own this necklace, it would be the perfect addition to this outfit! It's a ruby (to match the earrings) maple leaf...for Canada! The maple leaf is a symbol of Canada...what a great way to show support of Canada and our Canadian athletes at the Games.

The purse came from a Le Chateau Outlet. It's a cream coloured canvas with red faux leather edging. It goes so well with this outfit! It has a gold chain strap or your can use it as a clutch.

I'm also bring a white cardigan with me (not pictured) in case it gets a bit cold. I couldn't find my cardigan online, but this is a similar one.

In the next couple of weeks, I'll share the rest of the outfits that I wore to the Games, as well as highlights for the events I attended. For a sneak peek, be sure to follow me on Instagram

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

The Young Professional- Hiatus

Happy Monday!! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!! Last week, we had a day off in the middle of the week because of Canada Day. I spent last weekend, Tuesday-Wednesday and this past weekend at the beach. It was fantastic!!

Work (which is going amazingly well!!), weekends away, a personal situation, some changes, and some prior commitments have pulled my focus from blogging. While I will still/be going back to blogging on a regular basis, but decided to but The Young Professional series on hiatus until the fall. Who wants to think about work during the beautiful, sunny, beach worthy months? Not this girl!

In other news, the Pan-Am games start this week!! I'll be attending some of the games early next week and I'm excited to share the experience with all of you. Be sure to follow me on Instagram to see what I get up too.

Oh Canada, Eh

Happy Canada Day!! This is probably one of my favourite holidays, simply because I love Canada so much! I went to the fireworks last night- you can find some pictures on my instagram. I'm hoping the weather will be warm enough and rain-less to spend it outside, hopefully at the beach.

I am blessed to live in Canada and to call this country my home. I am proud of everything that Canada stands for and represents. I'm thankful for our rights and freedoms, our mosaic, and that Canada is such a forward thinking, progressive country. I love Canada and I love being Canadian.

Plus, do you have any idea how beautiful of a country Canada is? You can check out my Pinterest board dedicated to Canada to see how pretty it is.
